Week 10 - Online Forum

Assalamualaikum

This week, there is no face-to-face lecture and tutorial. We were asked to read Chapter 9: Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability, and Strategy by ourselves.
This chapter basically emphasises on business ethical codes that need to be implemented in an organisation. By studying this chapter, i learn how the standards of ethical behaviour in business are no different from the ethical standards and norms of the larger society and culture in which a company operates., besides that, gain my understanding of the costs of business ethics failures and learn the concept of corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability  and how companies balance these duties with economic responsibilities.

On the other hand, for the tutorial lesson, we were required to answer an online forum. The question is,
" Discuss how a corporate culture can assist in executing strategies in an organization. if you are one of the top managers, what kind od values that you would like to inculcate in your organization?"

My answer is:
I think that corporate culture can assist in executing strategies in an organization  by develop a well matched culture to the requirement of the strategy execution. It will energize employees, deepen their commitment to execute the strategy and enhance worker productivity. Apart from that, Culture-induced peer pressure induces personnel to do things in a manner that aids good strategy execution. It is in management’s best interest to dedicate considerable effort to establishing a corporate culture that encourages behaviors and work practices conducive to good strategy execution.

If  i one of the top manager, the values that I would inculcate in my organization is Justice, responsibility  benevolence and unity, because that's are Islamic values that should be apply by all organization, and insyaAllah it will assist the executing strategies.

That's all for this week. Thank you =)

Week 9 - Corporate Strategy

Assalamualaikum.

I apologise for being late in updating this blog. It was supposed to be updated last week.  I was absent for the lecture class last week, because of some emergency problem. But i know my responsibilities as student to recover and study the topic by myself, therefore, from what i have read about last week lecture on Corporete Strategy,  i found that how a company to succeed better in their business. The goal  is to achieve synergy.  Entry into a new business can take any three forms: acquisition, internal startup or joint venture.  Apart from that, there are two fundamental approaches to diversification-into related businesses and into unrelated businesses.

In addition to that, i read about how to analyse how good a company's diversification strategy. There are six steps to analyse this. Firstly, evaluate the long term attractiveness of the industries into which the firm has diversified. Secondly, evaluate the relative competitive strength of each of the company's business units. Thirdly, check for cross-business strategic fit. Fourthly, check whether the firm's resources fit the resource requirements of its present business lineup. Fifth is ranking the performance prospects of the businesses from best to worst, and determine what the corporate parent's priority should be in allocating resources to its various businesses. Last but not least, crafting new strategic moves to improve overall corporate performance.

During the tutorial lesson, we discussed about the Piping hotdogs case. We focused franchising and doing business internationally. Mdm Huda teach us how to implement Poter's Diamond of National Competitive Advantage  for this case.  As usual, we shares our ideas in the discussion. Mdm Huda also shared her knowledge and  experience, business strategy and so on.

All in all, we had a good discussion in the class..

Thats all, thank you

Its already 7th week of lecture.  For this week, I have learnt about Stategies For Competing in International Markets ,Alhamdulillah. I really enjoyed  this lecture, and this subject as well.

As the class started, Miss Ummi explained to all of us about the primary reason companies choose to compete in international markets. One of the reason is to gain access to new customer. If we decide to compete internationally, the company can find and get new customer from any other country around the world. The other reason is to achieve lower costs through economic scale, experience and increased purchasing power, to further exploit its core competencies, to gain access to resources and capabilities located in foreign market and to spread its business risks across a wider market base.

Besides that, this chapter also focuses on strategy option for expanding beyond domestic boundaries and competing in the markets of either a few or a great many countries. In the process of exploring these options, miss Ummi introduced and briefly explained about such concepts as multidomestic, transnational, and global strategies, the porter diamond of national competitive advantage and profit sanctuaries.

Mastering in this topic is very important because we need to develop several strategies depends on market. Different market need different strategies. The example of multi nasional market such as , Petronas and Air Asia.
