Week 11 - Last Entry

Assalamualaikum W.b.t

sorry for this long entry, keep reading my last post , thank you =)

Alhamdulillah we already enter into week 12nd, and this post will be the last post as we must submitted individual assignment (blog) to miss ummi by 8th December (tomorrow) . For our class last Wednesday, we had learn two chapter; 10 and 11.

Before class started, Miss ummi was given a piece of paper. We had to answer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire.  The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions.  We had to choose the character that we think more accurately describes our self. And the result will exposes our  career that suitable for us.

so that is the question asked for. For each row we need to choose either one that's describes us better.

And my personality is INFPs..I really admit it ^^. It describes me closely. i'am the person who is :

INTROVERSION   : prefer communicating in writing over talking, prefer
                                working in quiet environment,

iNTUITION          : remember specifics when part of a pattern imaginative
and creative, bored by routine and sequential tasks.
                               (really true ^^)
FEELING             : Actively look for qualities to praise in others. value and
                               create harmonious environments.

PERCEIVING        : Enjoy starting projects but often never finish. energized by
                              last minute pressures  =)

Overall, INFPs are idealistic, curious and loyal, they seek to understand others, yet can be less accepting of those who threaten  their core value.

Next we continue our learning on Chapter 10 and 11. Chapter 10 discuss about "Building an organization capable of good strategy execution" . In conclusion, this chapter describes about what managers must do to execute strategy successfully. Why hiring, training and retaining the right people constitute a key component of the strategy execution process. Company must realize that, to promote successful strategy execution they must structuring the work effort.

For chapter 11 - "Managing internal operations; action that promote good strategy execution". We learn how best practices and process management tools drive continuous improvement in the performance of value chain activities and promote superior strategy execution. Besides that, at the end of lecture we know why the use of well-designed incentives and rewards can be management's single most powerful tool for promoting adept strategy execution, such as corporate level strategies, generic strategies, and etc.

next we also must answer the online forum regarding rewards and motivation :

Week 10 - Online Forum

Assalamualaikum

This week, there is no face-to-face lecture and tutorial. We were asked to read Chapter 9: Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability, and Strategy by ourselves.
This chapter basically emphasises on business ethical codes that need to be implemented in an organisation. By studying this chapter, i learn how the standards of ethical behaviour in business are no different from the ethical standards and norms of the larger society and culture in which a company operates., besides that, gain my understanding of the costs of business ethics failures and learn the concept of corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability  and how companies balance these duties with economic responsibilities.

On the other hand, for the tutorial lesson, we were required to answer an online forum. The question is,
" Discuss how a corporate culture can assist in executing strategies in an organization. if you are one of the top managers, what kind od values that you would like to inculcate in your organization?"

My answer is:
I think that corporate culture can assist in executing strategies in an organization  by develop a well matched culture to the requirement of the strategy execution. It will energize employees, deepen their commitment to execute the strategy and enhance worker productivity. Apart from that, Culture-induced peer pressure induces personnel to do things in a manner that aids good strategy execution. It is in management’s best interest to dedicate considerable effort to establishing a corporate culture that encourages behaviors and work practices conducive to good strategy execution.

If  i one of the top manager, the values that I would inculcate in my organization is Justice, responsibility  benevolence and unity, because that's are Islamic values that should be apply by all organization, and insyaAllah it will assist the executing strategies.

That's all for this week. Thank you =)

Week 9 - Corporate Strategy

Assalamualaikum.

I apologise for being late in updating this blog. It was supposed to be updated last week.  I was absent for the lecture class last week, because of some emergency problem. But i know my responsibilities as student to recover and study the topic by myself, therefore, from what i have read about last week lecture on Corporete Strategy,  i found that how a company to succeed better in their business. The goal  is to achieve synergy.  Entry into a new business can take any three forms: acquisition, internal startup or joint venture.  Apart from that, there are two fundamental approaches to diversification-into related businesses and into unrelated businesses.

In addition to that, i read about how to analyse how good a company's diversification strategy. There are six steps to analyse this. Firstly, evaluate the long term attractiveness of the industries into which the firm has diversified. Secondly, evaluate the relative competitive strength of each of the company's business units. Thirdly, check for cross-business strategic fit. Fourthly, check whether the firm's resources fit the resource requirements of its present business lineup. Fifth is ranking the performance prospects of the businesses from best to worst, and determine what the corporate parent's priority should be in allocating resources to its various businesses. Last but not least, crafting new strategic moves to improve overall corporate performance.

During the tutorial lesson, we discussed about the Piping hotdogs case. We focused franchising and doing business internationally. Mdm Huda teach us how to implement Poter's Diamond of National Competitive Advantage  for this case.  As usual, we shares our ideas in the discussion. Mdm Huda also shared her knowledge and  experience, business strategy and so on.

All in all, we had a good discussion in the class..

Thats all, thank you

I will remember her advise, she said that, "we need to be positive all the time so that we can success in our life. Its normal to fail, but we need to bounce back." I really admire her. =)

In order to sustain the original Japanese taste on their cuisine, in the meantime use the halal raw materials, they proceed to make their own recipe.   O-SHIMA also have a problem at first to deal with JAKIM to get the Halal certification. But as a muslim entrepreneur, they will make sure that all the material use in making the Japanese dishes is halal and clean.
